SIG-11 Chair's ReportMay 24, 2006
2006 has been an active year for SIG-11. Its climax will be the upcoming RESNA conference. But we truly need your help now with two events: the SIG Open House and the SIG-11 Developers Forum. SIG-11 will be participating in RESNA's 2nd Annual SIG Open House on Saturday June 24th from 6 to 7pm. Like last year, we will be handing out pertinent information to attendees who sign up with SIG-11. We will need help in setting up and manning the SIG-11 table. If you are interested, please contact me by e-mail or phone by the start of the conference. The second event requiring assistance is the SIG-11 Developers Forum to be held on Saturday June 24th from 7 to 9pm in the Computer Tech Lab. Our Co-chair, Jamie Prioli, has been organizing this. If you know of new products on the market or developers who are prototyping new designs, please let Jamie know who they are. The Forum is an ideal environment for companies and developers to demonstrate new products and more importantly obtain feedback from practitioners who will be in a position recommend their product. Also, if you can, come early, as we can always use help in setting up the computer room and providing handout material. We thank these talented individuals for submitting proposals and lending their expertise to RESNA and to the field of computer-based assistive technology.
We still have a few open time slots in the SIG-11 Computer Applications Show-and-Tell workshop. The event is planned for Saturday, June 24th from 10:15am to 11:30am. Please send in your two-paragraph description regarding your presentation. This is one of the easiest ways to describe that one intriguing case or new-found approach. Please send applications to Robert Van Etten. For more information, browse to: Call for Participation: RESNA SIG-11 Computer Applications Show-and-Tell
The purpose of the SIG-11 Mentor Program is to promote professional growth of individuals new to the field of computer applications and provide a new mechanism for peer networking for newcomers within SIG-11. The SIG-11 Mentor Program has already begun, but we truly need your help. If you are a seasoned rehabilitation professional, please volunteer. For more information browse to: RESNA SIG-11 Mentor Program and SIG-11 Mentor Program Update or contact:
Kate Seelman, chair of the RESNA Government Affairs Committee (GAC), is soliciting volunteers from within RESNA to serve on the 508 Access Board Advisory Committee which is a part of the US Access Board. "508" stands for Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act on telecommunications access. If you know of anyone that can serve, please contact her.
I would like to thank Dave Jaffe for his many hours of dedication with the SIG-11 Distribution List and maintaining the SIG-11 web site. I would also like to thank Jamie Prioli as Co-Chair of SIG-11 and her work with the SIG-11 Developers Forum and the SIG-11 Mentoring Program. We have worked well as a team to serve you. We look forward to seeing you at the SIG-11 events mentioned. We're always open to your suggestions, ideas, and input. Your colleague in service,
