SIG-11 Computer Applications Vice-Chair Announcement

SIG-11 Members,

I would like to take a moment to announce that the SIG-11 vice chair position has been graciously volunteered for by Robert Van Etten. Robert brings to SIG-11 a wealth of knowledge and experience in the area of technology. In addition, Robert will be coordinating the Developers Forum at the 2005 RESNA conference. Please welcome our new SIG-11 vice-chair!

Robert is a Rehabilitation Engineering consultant with his own company called Adaptive Living started in 1985. He contracts with government and private agencies to perform evaluations, modifications, and fabrication assessments using the current tools of assistive technology. His specialty is worksite, home, and computer adaptations. In the past, Robert has also been employed in the hospital, non-profit, state, and federal government agencies settings.

Robert sells a custom-made office chair called the ErgoChair for Little People. The chair came as a result of a school environment evaluation of a dwarf child. The Ergo Chair is specially designed with a unique footrest and adjustability to provide the proper comfort for a dwarf.

Robert is a member of Little People of America and has twice served as their National President.

Robert's involvement with SIG-11 has been leading workshops in the area of Voice Recognition and Environmental Controls. As a member of RESNA since 1984, Robert has served on the Board of Directors and as a past SIG-1 chair. Robert is happy to now lend his past experience and serve as SIG-11 vice chair.
