Listserv introduction:

Listserv stands for "listserver"; it was originally a mailing-list server designed to make group communication simpler. Listserv has evolved into a more powerful tool, but serves the same basic needs. When people subscribe to a listserv, they are placed on a mailing list and receive messages sent by other subscribers. Messages are sent to a central address where they are disseminated to all the subscribers.

A listserv allows everyone to read and then respond to everyone's messages. It is similar to a conversation. Of course, private mail can always be sent to a person's private address.

Who can subscribe to the RESNA AT-FORUM Listserv:

All RESNA members and employees of institutional members, including SIG-11 members will be allowed to subscribe. Individuals who have an interest in assistive technology are also welcome. You must follow the process above to subscribe as only subscribers may post messages to the listserv.

How to send a posting to the RESNA AT-FORUM Listserv:

To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to at-forum@list.resna.org . This is called "sending mail to the list," because you send mail to a single address and the listserv sends copies to all the people who have subscribed. This address is also called the "list address".

Your message will then be distributed to all the subscribers. Notice that the address to subscribe is different from the address to post messages.

Appropriate postings include:

  • feedback about conferences
  • announcements of future conferences
  • ideas for instructional courses, concurrent sessions, and special seminars
  • discussion of a particular piece of equipment
  • questions about clinical problems or ideas

Basically, anything having to do with RESNA or the assistive technology field can be discussed freely.

Modifying the subject line in received postings:

You can get 'AT-FORUM' included in the subject line for each list posting you get by sending the command, "set at-forum subj" to listserv@list.resna.org in the body of the message.

Send the command without the quotes, and leave the subject line blank.
