Microsoft's AI Beats Human Transcription in Voice Recognition Test

In a benchmark test, Microsoft claims a 5.1% error percent rate in its speech
recognition technology, putting it ahead of the competition and ahead of the
5.9 percent word error rate measured by a human control group.

The report places Microsoft ahead of competitors like IBM, which received a
5.5 error rate last year. The improvement comes after Microsoft's new
Artificial Intelligence & Research group worked on tweaking the neural
net-based acoustic and language models.

This new level of accuracy will be implemented in Cortana, Microsoft
Cognitive Services, and Speech Translator, a real-time translation service
for multi-lingual audiences.
