Google Adds Voice to Google Docs From: Speech Technology - Summer 2016 - page 18 Google in late February rolled out a new feature in Google Docs that lets users format and edit documents using voice commands. The feature supports more than 40 languages and dozens of regional variations and accents. It currently works with the Google Chrome browser on both Macs and PCs. This product introduction follows Google's September. 2015 release of voice dicta tion in Google Docs, which let users enter text without touching their keyboards. They still had to do most of the formatting manually, like creating indented lists or changing font size; the new offering can do all that as well. That wasn't Google's only speech-related news. The company in late March opened its speech recognition application programming interface (API) to third-party developers. The Google Cloud Speech API, which will cover more than 80 languages and variants, enables developers to convert audio to text by applying the same neural network models that power some of Google's other voice-enabled apps, such as Voice Search. Users can enable command-and-control through voice or transcribe audio files to text, and can even filter out inappropriate content. Google says the API can handle noisy audio from many environ ments without additional noise cancellation.
