Because he is deaf. Dave Alexander, who went through Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in college, flew Black Hawk helicopters in the military, taught ROTC, and went into the Reserves, went to graduate school for audiology and started working at the Maryland School for the Deaf in November. Alexander's is now trying to help Nolan persuade the Department of Defense (DOD) to create a pilot program to train 15 to 20 candidates with a range of hearing loss, to be Air Force officers.
