A Very Special Coffee Shop Gets a Big Surprise from Rach From: Rachel - 10/25/2016 Last year, we introduced you to Bitty & Beau's Coffee Shop, a special place in Wilmington, NC which employs 40 people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Owner Amy says, "Starting Beau's Coffee hit me like a lightning bolt. I was trying to think of a way to bring the community together and to help people with and without disabilities spend time together." Her cafe recently expanded from 500 to 5,000 square feet, and she explains why their mission is so important. “70 percent of people with intellectual disabilities are unemployed. That’s a nationwide statistic. I think we would all agree, having a job makes you feel like you matter. And that’s how we all want to feel,” she says.
