Neurofeedback Technology Helps Combat PTSD From: Medical Design Technology - 08/18/2015 Neurotherapy methods like neurofeedback are designed to treat the underlying problems at specific brain locations and neural networks, which are associated with the presenting symptoms by changing how the brain functions. It appears that among effective treatments are those that permit patients to learn and re-experience a renewed capacity to auto-regulate their responses. In my practice, I've successfully used neurofeedback to treat the underlying physiology of active duty and combat veterans suffering from the symptoms of PTSD and combat stress. During neurofeedback sessions, a patient learns to shift her or his mental state in order to normalize brain rhythmicity as displayed to them by the EEG. Patients see their own brain EEG rhythms, and learn to self-regulate them over time.
