MedTech Memoirs: Hearing Aids From: Medical Design Technology - 07/07/2015 By: Sam Brusco The first hearing aids relied entirely on acoustics in order to amplify sound. As far back as the thirteenth century, horns, trumpets, and speaking tubes assisted the hearing-impaired by providing moderate augmentation that “funneled” sound into the ear. The first "official" mention of a hearing aid was introduced in 1588 in a book entitled Natural Majick, in which the author describes wooden hearing aids carved into the shapes of the ears of those animals deemed to have superior hearing.
