Diabetes Won't Keep This IndyCar Driver Out of the Race From: Medical Design Technology - 04/08/2015 IndyCar driver Charlie Kimball wired his commercially-available wearable glucose monitor directly into his car's electronics. The car was already running diagnostics on itself - tire pressure, brake temperature, fuel levels; so why not display his blood glucose levels as well? The upkeep of the driver, especially in Kimball's case, is just as important as the car. All he has to do is glance at the display on the steering wheel, and he'll see his lap time, speed, oil pressure, water temperature, and glucose levels! When either the sensor or his pit crew monitoring wirelessly alert him that his levels are getting low, Kimball simply turns to the drink system attached to his car's cockpit. He can sip water or orange juice through a 3D-printed valve at any time, refueling himself without any trouble. Kimball actually has a background in mechanical engineering - he was accepted into Stanford's program before he became a professional racer.
