Virtual World to Allow Amputees to Simulate Moving Missing Limbs From: Rehab Management - 11/20/2013 Sandra Winkler, PhD. a researcher from the Nova Southeastern University College of Health Care Sciences has received a 3-year grant to fund her investigation into whether virtual worlds may assist amputees in developing skills to navigate the real world. Winkler explains that patients "will be able to enter our virtual island and simulate what it is like to once again use their missing limbs. This has the possibility to make life better for so many amputees, and all they will need is an Internet connection." The release states that study participants will have the opportunity to virtually experience a variety of activities, including riding on a jet ski and diving in a coral reef.
