"Virtual Reality Hands" May Help Stroke Patients Regain Hand Function From: PT Products - 11/22/2013 A small study presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2013 shows that "virtual reality hands" controlled by the wearer can help stroke survivors recover use of their hands and arms. With the use of the brain-computer interface, researchers created an environment where individuals who are too physically impaired to move can practice mental imagery to help regain function of their upper extremities. The brain-computer interface technology can help tell if a patient is activating a region of their brain in a way that has been linked to better recovery.
