Technology Found in Smart Phones and Tablets May Hold Promise in Stroke Rehab From: Rehab Management - 04/10/2013 Researchers at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center report that they are using technology found in smart phones and tablets in an effort to improve mobility in patients who have sustained a stroke. The university states that the research team is using wireless sensors that contain small accelerometers, which are designed to measure the force of acceleration and are also used in smart phones and tablets to sense movement and help adjust the image on the screen. The researchers note that a total of six sensors are placed on the patient’s arms, legs, and chest. As the patient walks or performs other functional activities, the sensors relay information to one another and back via a computer engineered to chart how and where the patient is moving.
