Music-Motion iPod App Helps Improve Gait Function in Parkinson's Patients From: Physical Therapy Products - 10/25/2013 According to researchers at the University of Calgary in Alberta, an application for a modified iPod Touch can significantly improve arm-swing and gait disorders in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) by using a musical reward system designed to rewire the brain. The training system, named Ambulosono, utilizes fourth generation iPod motion-sensing technology and an application called Gait Reminder. The iPod can be attached to a leg or arm, and music is triggered to play or stop depending on whether the patient's pace, arm-swing, or stride-length is adequate and synchronized.
