A recent study by the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans
Affairs estimated five-year prosthetic costs to be as high as $450,000 for a
person with multiple limb amputations, $230,000 for a person with a
unilateral lower-limb ampuputation and $117,000 for a person with a
unilateral upper-limb amputation.
