Sensors for Body-Area Networks Could Enable New Healthcare Applications From: University of Michiagn EECS News - 2010-2011 Prof David D. Wentzloff is investigating new technology that will exploit the wireless communication standard being developed by IEEE for body area networks. Body area networks involve sensors placed on someone's body that talk to each other, or that talk to somethign external or internal to the body. For example, an individual could have an internal sensor that monitors blood levels related to their diabetes or seizure disorder that communicates with a patch on the skin, which, in turn could communicate with a cell phone application. Body area sensor networks may also be used to detect falls in the elderly, or to alert nurses when very ill patients try to get out of bed.
