WGBH, Boston's public media outlet, developed video description for television in 1990, and for movies in first-run theaters in 1997. Today, WGBH's Media Access Group describes more than 70 films a year (and closed captions more than 100) in time for their debut in the more than 500 theaters equipped with our DVS Theatrical and Rear Window Captioning systems, collectively known as MoPix. A simple web search for "described movies" will reveal lots of information about availability of described movies in theaters. There are 10 theaters in the LA area alone screening descibed films every day.
