Home Guardian Introduces Sensor System for Elderly From: Rehab Management - Rehab Today - 04/07/2008 Home Guardian, Charlottesville, VA, introduces a suite of sensors that monitor the health status of seniors in their homes while allowing caregivers to focus on providing needed care. The system was developed by researchers at the University of Virginia's Medical Automation Research Center (MARC) in partnership with The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and the Volunteers of America (VOA) National Services. The researchers report that in controlled studies conducted by The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and the VOA National Services, the use of the sensors reduced the cost of care by 75%, increased the participants' feelings of safety and security, and enabled caregivers to have less job-related stress. "We are thrilled this research has led to a significant advancement in the way we can care for our nation's seniors," says David J. Horazdovsky, president and CEO of The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. "With these tools, our organization and many others will be able to help the seniors we serve to receive quality care in their homes while enjoying an increased sense of security and safety."
