SIGACCESS Award for Outstanding Contributions to Computing and Accessibility The SIGACCESS officers are pleased to announce the creation of a new award for Outstanding Contributions to Computing and Accessibility. This award is to be presented every other year to a person who has made significant and lasting contributions to computing and information technology that addresses the needs persons with disabilities. Outstanding contributions through research, practice, or advocacy will be recognized. Towards this goal, contributions will be considered from academia, industry, as well as other professions that focus on computer users with disabilities and the application of computing technology in solving relevant disability problems. The award will recognize members of the community for long-term accomplishments or those who have made a notable impact through a significant innovation. Nominations will be solicited during the Spring of even numbered years, with decisions made in time to allow the above recognition and award presentation at ASSETS that Fall. The selection committee will focus on candidates' contributions as judged by innovative ideas, influence in the community, and / or the social impact resulting from the work. The award includes a $1000 honorarium, an award certificate of recognition, and an invitation for the recipient to present a keynote talk at a current year's SIGACCESS-sponsored conference such as ASSETS. A public citation for the award will be placed on the SIGACCESS website. Further details for the 2008 nominations will be announced this Spring.
