Accessible Adaptive Multimodal User Interface From: Smart Internet Technology CRC - Australia Leader: Claude Sammut Researchers: Paul Turner, Daniel Woo, Mathew McGill, Gunela Astbrink, Stephen Chau The aim of the project is to provide accessible and easy to use interfaces to devices in the home to allow the occupant to be able to use internet services, communicate with friends and family and to be able control devices in the home. These devices may also be used to monitor the health of the occupant. The two cornerstones that distinguish this work are integration and interactivity. It will create a platform that enables the rapid development of applications that integrate a multitude of devices, protocols and modalities together seamlessly, covering things as diverse as switching the lights on and off, but at the same time also controlling a drug dispensing system. It will not only allow the user to control the environment locally, or to receive content externally (like a normal television), but allow them to interact in a more compelling manner with the household (by, for example, them instructing the house how to behave at a higher level) as well as allowing them to create their own content and distribute it (e.g. digital photos).
