Talking Tutor From: NASA Tech Briefs Insider - 02/28/2006 In the 1990s, Exceptional Teaching Inc. developed the Speech Assisted Learning (SAL) device that provided math and Braille reading lessons in a flat, notebook-sized tool. The same math problems that appear in textbooks were presented in Braille, and unknown words and symbols were pronounced with a press on the paper. With National Science Foundation funding, Exceptional Teaching and Touch Graphics Inc. have collaborated to re-introduce SAL2, part of the Talking Tactile Tablet (TTT). The system uses more powerful software to allow blind students and adults to work with a tutor or alone on math problems, geography, or even solving crossword puzzles.
