Thanks to an extraordinary bit of human rewiring, Sullivan can bend his elbow, scratch his head or lift a pencil without actively thinking about it. His desires - even those that reside in the gray area between conscious and unconscious thought - can make motors whir. In essence, Sullivan can operate a machine with his mind.
