We will be facilitating a workshop at the CSUN Technology and Persons with
Disabilities conference on Wednesday, March 19th, 9:30am in the LAX Hilton's
Marina room and we are looking for people to participate in the session. Our
session is entitled "AT from the Trenches" and is an opportunity for service
providers to showcase their creative solutions for people with disabilities.
Please read the conference paper below for additional information.  

AT from the Trenches 

As professionals in the field of assistive technology, we are often faced
with situations where we need to carefully weigh and consider a variety of
factors to meet the consumers needs. This includes our knowledge of
commercially available devices, service providers, implementation strategies
and techniques, and our ability to "customize" a device to match the
individual's abilities. 

Many of our predecessors were the first to apply a technology to meet the
needs of persons with disabilities. Now the AT market place offers many
products that meet the needs - in whole or part - of our clientele.  Many of
our colleagues have discovered handy tools and devices in areas far removed
from ours. Some of us have confronted on the same user capabilities and needs
and arrived at functionally equal yet structurally divergent solutions. 

In this age of widespread information accessibility and immediate information
exchange, nothing can compare to meeting and showing each other the things
that we find work, in person. 

With time and resources often stretched to the breaking point, we can't
afford to "re-invent the wheel" every time we evaluate consumer's needs. This
session is about sharing our experiences, knowledge and perspectives, with
the intention of spreading the news, educating the newcomers, and of course,
getting a couple minutes in the spotlight!

* Simple Loc-Line Mount for Morse Code
* Computer Access using Jouse for Person with MD and Vent Dependent
* Separating the Mouse from the Click
* Morse Code and Jaws: Computer Access for Person who is Visually Impaired,
  Non-verbal, and Ataxic
* Glider Control Enhancer and Video Camera Access


This year's session coordinators will round up an equally diverse and
interesting group of presenters and topics. Handouts will include summaries
of each with contact information, and related information will also be
published on the Center on Disabilities Training web site at
http://www.csun.edu/codtraining 

If you will be attending the conference and would like to participate, please
complete the information requested below and email it to Mike. We will accept
8 presenters for the session, as well as a couple of "back up" presenters in
case we have additional time.
