Conference: A Not-So-Kind-or-Gentle-World: Ethical Issues In Disability and Aging Sponsored by: The Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy at the Stritch School of Medicine of Loyola University Chicago, The Center for Disability Ethics at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and The Medical Ethics and Humanities Program, Northwestern University School of Medicine. When: June 29-30, 2001 Where: Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago, Maywood, IL This two-day symposium will examine ethical issues in disability and aging. Proposals for presentations related to the aging of those with long-term disabilities, understanding disability as part of the life cycle, issues of disability and personal identity, understanding differences between impairments resulting from chronic illness and those which are congenital or not progressive, ethical issues in care giving, ethical issues related to institutionalization, understanding quality of life, and access to services and health care, are welcome. Proposals should be approximately 200 - 500 words in length and outline the content of the presentation. A brief biosketch of the presenter is helpful but not required.
