Dear Colleagues, You are invited to participate in the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering which will take place on July 23-28, 2000 at Navy Pier in Chicago. This event also serves as the 22nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. With over 6000 projected attendees, this Congress is expected to be the largest gathering of biomedical engineers and medical physicists. We are planning a substantial program in Rehabilitation Engineering (RE) for Chicago 2000, to reflect the significant increase of interests and activities in this area around the world. The topics for this RE track tentatively include - Functional Electrical Stimulation Mobility and Motor Control Balance and Postural Control Sensory Rehabilitation Neural Engineering Prosthetics Rehabilitation Robotics and Powered Orthotics Assistive Technology and Gerontechnology Wheelchair Technology and Related Studies Brain Injury Spinal Cord Injury Tele-Rehabilitation We welcome submissions on fundamental studies on disabling and enabling processes, as well as submissions on innovative technology that facilitates independent living for people with disabilities. The final organization of our Rehabilitation Engineering sessions would depend on the actual submissions accepted. The above listing serves primarily as a guideline. In addition, we are also planning several mini-symposia on Rehabilitation Engineering - possibly one on the funding and organization of RE research programs, and another on specific new advances and directions in RE. This conference will provide an excellent opportunity to highlight your rehabilitation research to an international audience of bioengineers. Please visit http://www.wc2000.org for complete conference information including paper submission and meeting registration. Papers are due January 14, 2000 and the early registration deadline is May 15, 2000. Please forward this email to other colleagues who may also be interested in this event. We look forward to your paper submissions and seeing you in Chicago next year. Sincerely, Arthur FT Mak, PhD Jockey Club Rehabilitation Center, Hong Kong rcafmak@polyu.edu.hk Charles J.
