Parrot, a French company, has just released the V3 version of the Parrot Plus voice recognition PDA, based on the wish list of blind users of the consumer market version. Parrot Plus V3 is specifically adapted to the visually impaired and brings the following improvements over the main version: 1. The default mode is set to accessibility. You don't have to go to the Control Panel anymore to activate spoken menus and prompts when you get started the first time. 2. All functions are now spoken as you select them in turn: Phone Book, Memo, Appointment, Clock, Calculator, Dialing Assistance, Control Panel 3. The Control Panel options and settings are now all spoken: volume level, spoken help level, accessibility mode, sound selection, auto shutdown timing, voice compression mode, data encoding, phone book fields, dialing speed and volume, recording mode, appointment speech-searchable keywords and date formats. 4. Double clicking on the side click from the Control Panel will speak the amount of free memory. 5. All digits are now spoken as they are typed in. 6. In the Calculator function, operators and numbers are spoken as you type them. Double clicking will speak the result. Parrot Plus is a pocket size voice activated PDA that allows you to retrieve phone numbers and addresses by speaking a name. It performs speak-to-dial from most phones. It also features a digital note taker, a vocal appointment book with reminder, a talking alarm clock and a talking calculator. Its voice recognition features are noise robust and its use is very intuitive, relying mainly on a side-click button, a mike and a speaker. Four disposable AAA cells will power it for months. The V3 version speaks messages and instructions in English only. It still works in any language. There is a conversion program for users who wish to upgrade their Parrot Plus to the V3 standard. This requires shipping the unit back. Users may inquire from any contact link about this program. V3 modifications allow users to get started with minimal to no outside help. Direct help can still be obtained from our website and we have loaded lots of useful speech friendly resources recently.
