Oscilloscopes respond to voice commands From: Electronic Products - September, 1999 - page 75 Voice-control scope interface leaves users' hands free to probe fine-pitched circuitry Offered as the first oscilloscopes to respond to natural-language voice commands, the company's Infiniium series oscilloscopes can now be configured with an optional voice-control interface. Users can adjust all front-panel controls orally through a collar-mounted microphone, thereby freeing their hands to manipulate probes and connectors. Incorporating Lernout & Hauspie's ASR1600 phonetic speech-recognition engine, the voice-control option includes a command set in English. Because the interface is both speaker and gender independent, users do not have to train the scope to recognize their voices. In addition, a help feature provides assistance in formulating voice commands. The voice-control enhancement is currently available on new scopes sold only in the United States. Current Infiniium users can retrofit their instruments with the option at a cost that varies depending on the CPU and memory configuration of their scope. (Voice-control interface, $495 - available now.)
