Ear Computer (InfoWeek 09/09/96, page 10) A Danish company has come up with what may be the world's smallest computer - it fits in your ear. Oticon claims that DigiFocus, its digital audio processor - more commonly known as a hearing aid - redesigns sound waves in real time, allowing those with hearing impairments to hear significantly better in noisy environments. Although it's smaller than a top joint of a little finger and weighs just 4 grams, the computing power of the $2000 unit amounts to 14 million instructions per second, so it can be programmed to a user's individual needs. With more than 100 software-controlled parameters, DigiFocus boasts features comparable to some high-end desktop PCs. Still, given its miniscule size, what are you supposed to do when it is time to reboot?
