Rehabilitation-Related Discussion, List and, E-Mail Resources on Internet A popular form of information exchange over the Internet, LISTSERV is also known by several other names: discussion groups, conference, or lists. A LISTSERV discussion group lets you post a message to which others can respond. You and the others can then respond to the responses, until you all get bored or have something more promising to attend to. Many e-mail lists and discussion groups send letters of introduction when you subscribe, or they regularly post Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that will often list related resources. These resources may be in the form of other lists, archives of previous postings, or reference information available via FTP, USENET, or telnet sites. Lists and e-mail provide a method of interacting with other people. This means that by joining lists focusing on your areas of interest, you'll receive (and eventually send!) messages that contain information about other related Internet resources. This will usually take the form of " ... because of your interest in xxx, I've uploaded this file ... " or " .. I've heard that yyy is available by zzz ... ". As you use your tools and gain experience and confidence, you'll learn that it's possible to find just about anything, and if you can't find it, you may just have to create it yourself. After all, someone had to create everything else out there. You'll probably find that no subject is too bizarre, exotic, or specialized for someone else to be interested in and contribute to. It's just a matter of finding them - and sometimes they move around. NOTE: Some onlines service may not be able to access LISTSERVs.
