REHABILITATION ENGINEERING TRAINING PROGRAM AT THE MASTERS LEVEL

A training program is available at WSU which is increasing the supply of 
qualified personnel providing rehabilitation engineering services to persons 
who have disabilities and who are clients of rehabilitation agencies and 
facilities. The program starts its fifth year this Fall. 

The program can be completed in 12 months. It consists of 60 quarter hours 
of lecture/lab courses including an internship within a rehabilitation 
center. The internship provides practical experience working with 
rehabilitation teams and laboratories with special applicability to this 
training. Seventeen BME's, HFE's, EE's, & ME's have successfully completed 
the program to date and are working. There appears to be increasing 
opportunities in this field.

Applicants should apply to the Graduate School for admission to the Masters 
of Science in Engineering with emphasis in Rehabilitation Engineering and 
contact Dr. Rowley. Enrollment in this program is limited to available 
internship positions.

GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS IN REHABILITATION ENGINEERING

Applications are being accepted for MS level Graduate Fellowships in the 
Rehabilitation Engineering Training Program. These are one year fellowships 
starting in September and go through August. Those receiving a fellowship 
will do their internship within a rehabilitation center in Dayton, Ohio. 
Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the Master of Science in 
Systems Engineering will be awarded. Those who receive a fellowship are 
expected to work for two years in an appropriate agency providing services 
to individuals with disabilities for each academic year of support. 
Prerequisites for a fellowship include a BS in Engineering, U.S. citizenship 
or permanent U.S. residency, and acceptance to graduate school. Prior 
knowledge of human anatomy and physiology is desirable but can be picked up 
through additional courses while in the program.

Applications for a fellowship should be made by letter to Dr. Rowley 
explaining your desire to become a Rehabilitation Engineer. Fellowships will 
start to be awarded around 1 April. The current stipend is $900 monthly and 
full tuition.
