The follwing message from Peter Green has been forwarded to you through RESNA SIG-11. Please respond to Peter directly if you have questions. From: jaffe@roses.Stanford.EDU (Dave Jaffe) Subject: MAC shareware for RESNA SIG-11 Apple does have quite an extensive collection of Macintosh software utilities and applications that are of interest to people with disabilities, rehabilitation professionals, and special educators. It includes everything from easy-access utilities that make using the Mac easier to use for a person with a physical impairment (in terms of negotiating menus, windows, keyboard, etc.), to talking software, from electronic books/texts, to software that provides TTY-emulation for a modem. All of the software is either shareware or public domain. The collection is updated constantly (either on our end, or via users who submit files to become part of the group). Currently the collection is on AppleLink on the Empower Bulletin Board and on eWorld in The Disability Connection. It is also available on CD through the AppleLink CD program (which basically takes all the information on AppleLink and dumps it to a CD, and then sells it to users). Probably the easiest/cheapest way to get to the collection, though, is via eWorld, Apple's new online service. You can call 800/775-4556 to request that an eWorld starter kit be sent out to you (it's free). The monthly fee for eWorld is $8.95 and that includes 2 free hours of use during evenings and weekends. For additional use, it's $5/hr during evenings and weekends and $8/hr during weekdays. The starter kit explains all that in more detail. Peter Green Apple Computer, Inc.
