High-Tech Education Research (ED) Scope: The Education Department will invite short-term pilot project proposals to test innovative ideas and technologies. Deadline: March 14 Funds: $40,000 for each of 25 six-month awards. Grantees will be eligible to compete later for development support. Eligibility: Small businesses. Grantees may collaborate with universities and nonprofits. Areas: Development or adaptation of assistive devices, mechanisms, technologies, and techniques for disabled individuals, including those with hearing impairments; innovative technologies to enhance self-determination, job development, job modification, work opportunities, or transition from school to work for disabled individuals; telecommunications, electronic networks, multimedia or management information systems and software to meet the needs of disabled individuals, their families and professionals; innovative technologies to enhance learning and development of disabled children; and technologies to foster inclusion and facilitate successful integration of disabled children and youths into regular school settings. ED also is interested in development or adaptation of devices or technologies to assist disabled children and adults in the arts, recreation, or leisure-time activities; innovative technologies and materials to train teacher assistants working with limited English proficient students; technologies to facilitate the acquisition of English through visual and auditory interactive teaching for limited English proficient adults; and technologies to facilitate job readiness skills for limited English proficient adults.
