CSUN's Tenth Annual, International Conference TECHNOLOGY AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES March 14 - 18, 1995 This is an Invitation to Participate in a Major, Worldwide Conference Which Drew More Than 2,000 Persons From Almost Every State and 25 Foreign Countries to Los Angeles in 1994 SCOPE This is a comprehensive, international conference on technology, where all ages, disabilities, and levels of education and training in this country and abroad are covered. Focus includes infant, preschool, elementary and secondary school programs for children with disabilities, their families, teachers and school administrators . . . college and university programs . . . professors, physicians, clinicians, researchers, counselors and program administrators . . . rehabilitation engineering . . . service providers and administrators from the Department of Rehabilitation and other community agencies. GENERAL SESSION PRESENTATIONS This is an invitation to present a half-hour or an hour session on Wednesday, March 15, Thursday, March 16, Friday, March 17, or Saturday, March 18, 1995. In offering to present a paper, it is expressly understood that the paper may be scheduled at any time on any of these days at the discretion of the conference organizers. CONTENT Authors are invited to share applications of hardware and software, adaptive devices, training programs, and results of research. As the conference is international in scope, papers are encouraged from other countries. There is also a heavy consumer orientation (parents and persons who are themselves disabled) to the conference, so papers of interest to these target groups are also encouraged. A free copy of the 1994 PROGRAM is available from: Dr. Harry Murphy Founder & Director CENTER ON DISABILITIES California State University, Northridge 18111 Nordhoff St. Northridge, CA 91330-8340 SPECIAL FEATURE: "THE ELECTRONIC HIGHWAY" The 1995 CSUN conference will highlight "The Electronic Highway," or the coming together of telephone, cable, video, and computer technologies. Papers are especially solicited in this area. If your submission is for this special mini- conference, please so indicate on the proposal form. 1994 PROCEEDINGS A limited number of copies of the PROCEEDINGS of the 1994 conference, "Technology and Persons with Disabilities," are available only in electronic format $39.95 each (plus applicable tax). For further information contact: Dr. Harry Murphy Founder and Director CENTER ON DISABILITIES California State University, Northridge 18111 Nordhoff St. Northridge, CA 91330-8340 818/885-2578 818/885-4929 FAX EMail: HMurphy@VAX.CSUN.EDU INFORMATION IN ALTERNATIVE FORMATS Speakers and exhibitors are responsible for providing their own handouts and promotional materials in alternative formats. Recognizing that it is difficult to predict the composition and needs of the audience in advance, speakers should make an announcement at the beginning of their presentation that they are willing to provide materials in alternative formats as needed shortly after the conference. Exhibitors should also be prepared for requests for promotional materials in alternative formats. Hotel accommodations may be made by calling the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel at 310/641-5700(V) or 800/228-7014(TDD) or the Los Angeles Airport Hilton at 310/410-4000(V) or 310/410-6136(TDD). CONDITIONS OF PRESENTATION It is understood that these conditions apply to each and every author, presenter, or panelist, including exhibitors who are also presenting papers: (a) The title of the paper is succinct and descriptive of the content of the actual presentation. (b) All presentations for the regular conference sessions of March 15-18 are within the selected half hour or one hour window. Within this period, please allow time for questions and answers. It is expressly understood that the paper may be scheduled at anytime on any of the conference days at the discretion of the conference organizer. We will do our best to honor a speaker's preference for a half hour or full hour time slot. Selection of a preference, however, does not guarantee that all wishes will be met. (c) Authors submit a 25 word summary of their presentation to be used in the Program (See Proposal Form). It is very important that this be descriptive of the content of the presentation as the title and this brief summary is all that is printed and all that participants have to go on as they consider which sessions to attend. Our experience is that participants regret having selected sessions where the description is not consistent with the content of the session. (d) In addition to the summary, an abstract not exceeding 200 words must be submitted along with the proposal form. This is considered by a panel of reviewers and is critical in determining the quality of the presentation. Please do not submit more than a 200 word abstract. (e) The discounted preregistration fee for speakers is $195 (regular preregistration is $295) if payment in full (or purchase order) is received at CSUN not later than February 1, 1995. Late speaker registrations (after February 1) are $245. (f) Each and every speaker and panelist, including exhibitors who are also making presentations, pay the speaker's fee, even if in attendance only for one day. (g) Payment of an additional fee of $195 if the presenter wishes to attend the "Preconference Day" of Tuesday, March 14, 1995. Sixteen 3-hour presentations (8 in the morning, 8 in the afternoon) will take place on March 14 (topics to be announced). (h) "Acceptance" of a paper is defined as (1) official notification on our part on or about December 1, 1994, (2) payment of a discounted preregistration fee of $195 by February 1 (or late fee of $245 after February 1, 1995) and (3) finalization of equipment needs on your part not later than February 1, 1995. Any equipment changes after February 1 are the responsibility of the presenter(s). (i) It is very important to differentiate between authorship and those who are actually attending and presenting at the conference. Please take special care to note this on the Proposal Form. On the proposal form, please list those persons who are actually attending and presenting. You may note the appropriate authorship on your manuscript. The appropriate authorship is recognized in the Proceedings of the conference which is compiled and offered for sale in August. All those listed as conference speakers will be billed for the discounted speaker's fee. (j) The primary author of each paper receives one complimentary electronic copy of the Proceedings of the conference. (k) The author(s) agree to submit an original electronic AND hard copy manuscript of not more than 5 pages (including all references, charts, diagrams, etc.) for possible publication not later than March 1, 1995. Guidelines for papers will be given, in official notification of paper acceptance. Only papers of high quality will be published in the PROCEEDINGS. (l) It is unlikely that we are able to accept multiple submissions from the same author(s). (m) The official language of the conference is English. (n) $50.00 cancellation fee. Failure to attend an activity does not constitute withdrawal. THE CENTER ON DISABILITIES must be notified of intent to withdraw in writing. Speakers fees are fully refundable if cancellation is received by Feb. 1, 1995. After this date there is a $50 cancellation fee. (o) I understand that participants may request alternative formats for handouts and other materials. I agree to provide these.
