SECOND AUSTRALIAN CONFERENCE ON TECHNOLOGY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES October 9-12, 1995 LATEST IN TECHNOLOGY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ------------------------------------------------ A major 4-day conference at Regency Park Centre for Young Disabled, Adelaide, 9-12 October, 1995 will feature overseas speakers and Australian experts. Of special interest: * The latest voice-out communication devices in instructional courses conducted by US manufacturers * Demonstrations of testing to new Australian Standards for wheelchairs and other rehabilitation equipment. * Results of a recent study on wheelchair access requirements will be reported. * Group participation in solving difficult seating problems. * The latest in computer applications, including inexpensive voice input, will be on display. * Computers in the workplace and home automation will be the subjects of lectures and workshops. * Electrical stimulation of muscles will be described, including recent clinical experience. * Technology in special education, especially applications in mainstream environments. * Rehabilitation and assistive technology in other countries: history, status and future trends. * Follow-up studies and evaluations of services will be reported. * Technology and the needs of an aging population. * Transporting people with disabilities in vehicles. * Lightweight orthotics. * New devices for people with vision impairments. * Quantitative assessment, including gait analysis. This conference will be organized in co-operation with the International Commission on Technology and Access. A major feature will be the launch of an exciting new society, the Australian Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Association, which, among other things, will conduct these conferences in future years around Australia. One of the features of this conference will be the variety of presentations: lectures, workshops, exhibits, and group participation sessions.
