RESNA News SIG-11 Report

July - August, 1999

By the time you read this, the conference will be history and you'll be thinking ahead to next year's conference (yeah, right!). The minutes from the business meeting should eventually be sent out on the distribution list, posted on the SIG-11 website, and/or published in the next issue of RESNA News. Please refer to the minutes for topic ideas for courses and sessions for RESNA 2000. The deadline for Instructional Course and Concurrent Session proposals is September 30. We also have a new SIG chair - Glen Ashlock. His contact information is listed below. Good luck Glen!

The last two years have certainly been a learning experience for me. Reflecting back, I think the most important thing I learned was the importance of the involvement of the RESNA membership. My experience as a SIG chair has been an eye-opening one and has made me realize what is involved in organizing a conference and maintaining an organization like RESNA. It has raised my awareness of the roles that others play in RESNA and the role that each of us as members should assume. The effectiveness of RESNA as a 'whole' organization is dependent on the smaller 'parts' that make it up - regardless of whether you hold an office or participate on a committee or are part of the general membership. There are things that can be contributed at each level and as members we all have an obligation to contribute. So the next time Glen is looking for volunteers to do 'whatever', step forward and respond. Don't feel that you aren't qualified. Every member of our SIG has something to offer, no matter what your level or years of experience.

Thanks to those people who have been helping out behind the scenes in some way this past year. (If your name isn't on this list, I hope it is next year!) Mark Novak, Dave Jaffe, Kevin Caves, Glen Ashlock, Jim Lenker, Denis Anson, Rich Simpson, John Goldthwaite, Donn Hilker, Todd Schwanke, Sharon Ferrell, Yuichi Tamano, Susan Fridie, Sue Lin, Ed Ellingson, Ray Grott, Bill Glatfelter, Gary Downey, Margaret Cotts, Allie Hafez, Joan Napier, Ruth Mendelson, Corrine Holtz ... and others who volunteered in the Computer Lab and Show-n-Tell session (whose names I do not have yet), and others who I am sure I've forgotten ... thank you for your time, effort, and commitment. I appreciate all of the different ways you helped out RESNA, SIG-11, and me this past year!!
