Compass Software for Access Assessment

Compass is software that measures performance in skills needed for computer
interaction. It includes eight skill tests, covering text entry, pointing
device use, and switch use. Each test has many configuration options to
customize testing as needed. Compass collects speed and accuracy data during
test performance and reports the results.

Compass is designed to provide the evidence one needs to make good decisions
in all aspects of computer access service delivery. It is intended to help:

  Diagnose problems with the current interface;

  Evaluate performance with possible access solutions, such as different
  input devices;

  Plan training interventions;

  Track changes in a client's abilities over time; and

  Measure the effectiveness of an intervention.

Koester Performance Research, the maker of Compass, reports that users have
found that Compass is easy-to-use, increases evaluation efficiency and
accuracy, and is beneficial as a supplement to subjective evaluation.

More information about Compass and the research that guided its development
can be found at the website for Koester Performance Research. A free 30-day
