GI's night vision goggles in trials to help blind

Developed by the military, infrared night vision is now being reworked to
cure some blindness. 

Engineers at the Naval Research Laboratory will soon begin clinical trials of
a 3,200-pixel retinal implant that could restore moderate vision to certain
blind patients. Today's state-of-the-art retinal prosthesis is a 16-pixel
device that has been implanted in patients at the Doheny Eye Institute at the
Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
