Paul Mogan, project manager for the Operational Spaceport Project Office at
Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and a team of research partners are working
to create visual aids for people with sight disabilities. They are currently
working on a next-generation, low-vision device that takes advantage of
technology already used in commercial products (ie, cell phones, PDAs, and
laptop computers).

The device, which looks like a pair of sunglasses, will be both unobtrusive
to the wearer and easily tucked into a pocket when not in use. The glasses
will address a variety of sight disabilities. NASA is interested in using the
device for field collaboration - collecting video footage or photos and
automatically uploading them to a server for managers to view at a different
location.
