MIT Student Dances with Robots
From: EurekAlert - 02/04/2004

MIT graduate student Sommer Gentry is investigating how dancing partners
communicate haptically (through movement) to perform coordinated actions, and
the insights she is drawing from her experiments could be applied to
human-robot collaboration. She says that robotic surgical assistants already
in use could be upgraded to understand and respond to the user's haptic
signals, while Roderick Murray-Smith of the National University of
Ireland-Maynooth's Hamilton Institute believes Gentry's research could be
valuable for sports training or rehabilitation engineering.
