Give Me Five

The Bank Note Reader from Brytech Inc. is a handheld device that helps those
who are visually impaired, blind, or deaf-blind to identify Canadian bank
notes. If you have a bank note whose denomination you'd like to discover, you
slide the banknote into the reader. The reader recognizes the IR
characteristics of the various current (and future) Canadian banknotes and
then announces the denomination, either with a spoken phrase, coded beeps, or
tactile vibration.

The reader powers itself on when you insert a bank note, tells you what the
bank note is, then powers itself off. There are additional design details,
such as raised patterns to help you identify the controls and rubberized
grips to help you keep hold of the thing. There's also a lot of contrast
between the body of the reader and the area where you need to insert the bank
note. And if you'd like to know whether you just inserted a $5 dollar bill,
the language setting will tell you - in English or French - depending on how
you insert the battery.
