At the CeBit trade show in Hannover, Germany, Lernout & Hauspie demonstrated
a multilingual chat application that combines a number of speech-related
technologies and lets people communicate in their natural language to others
who might not speak the same language. In a demonstration, an English speaker
talked with a German speaker, their words translated by L&H technology.

The company won't ship the software until later this year because "the voice
(that speaks the translated words) sounds like a robot. We want to introduce
it with a real human voice," says Gaston Bastiaens, president and CEO of L&H.
