Robotic Walker for Frail Elderly with Visual Impairments

The goal of this project is to develop a test protocol to evaluate the PAMAID. Existing ISO walker standards have been ordered and will be used to help determine relevant tests. The ANSI/RESNA wheelchair standards will also be adapted to help assess the walker. Tests such as stability, energy consumption, climatic compatibility, and others will be conducted. Strength and fatigue testing will also be performed on the walker. Since the device relies on ultrasonic and laser sensors to help an embedded PC determine pathways and obstacles, a test section very similar to part 14 for the wheelchair standards, power and control systems, will also have to be developed and implemented. When all of the testing has been completed, the results will be analyzed and changes and modifications will then be made to the device.
